designing statistics

"Displaying heavy statistical information in an interesting and accessible way. Aimed at careers advisers with no previous knowledge of the fashion and textiles sector, the Labour Market Intelligence document is a report full of facts & figures relating to the fashion and textiles industry.
Our brief was to design an impactful, accessible and engaging publication to help careers professionals understand this complex industry so they could advise their clients appropriately. With no budget for photography or illustration, data was presented in a number of graphical ways, emphasising key facts, setting the pace of the document and adding variety to the publication. The use of large scale format, and micro die cut detailing, ensured the report gained the desired response."

information is beautiful

A very good info-graphics blog/website, set up by David McCandless

"I’m David McCandless, a London-based author, writer and designer. I’ve written for The Guardian, Wired and others. I’m into anything strange and interesting. These days I’m an independent data journalist and information designer. A passion of mine is visualizing information – facts, data, ideas, subjects, issues, statistics, questions – all with the minimum of words. I’m interested in how designed information can help us understand the world, cut through BS and reveal the hidden connections, patterns and stories underneath. Or, failing that, it can just look cool! My pet-hate is pie charts. Love pie. Hate pie-charts."

wim crouwel [designer]

went to the design museum yesterday and saw wim crouwels exhibition there which was really good
posters were so structured and inspiring to me. simple use of shape, colour and amazing typography.

"inspired by the deficiencies in emerging typesetting technology with its clumsy rendering of type, Crouwel developed a theoretical solution using only horizontal and vertical strokes. Crouwel intention was to provoke a dialogue on the impactof new technology as opposed to creating a functional font." about New Alphabet
"the juxtaposition of the classical along side futuristic, representing an attempt to looking forward whilst evoking the past"
