as little as design as possible

A beautifully printed and set out book covering some of the work by one of the influential designers, Dieter Rams. The book was designed by Kobi Benezri, as more than a catalogue but the life story of a huge personality and the ongoing current effect that still is affecting people today.

"A book about Dieter Rams called for a functional and effortless-looking layout, that is, nonetheless, elegant and fully developed down to the last detail. The materials for starting a design concept for the book were a wide mix of studio product shots, press materials, scanned catalogues and drawings, portraits, and prototypes snapshots. We needed a layout that enabled us to organize the book as a story, where black and white archival images from the Braun era could go together in the same chapter with new full colour studio shots of Braun products. The text — laid out as a classic reading book, including footnotes and margin references to all image page numbers — was intentionally separated from the images allowing us to follow the story and create an order in the layout."
