graphic design: a users manual [adrian shaughnessy]

As part of my Final Major Project I've been doing a spot of research and I was recommended Graphic Design: A User's Manual by Adrian Shaughnessy. My project is based about educating design students so there is a level playing field throughout a class and a guide to help with independent learning - along with many other aspects.

I haven't even finished the book yet and I'm enjoying it hugely. It's honest and detailed. The book covers the essential A-Z of design and other things that designers should know. It has the essentials, what is kerning and tracking etc but includes things that for a designer might, at first glance, seem obscure. But everything is completely relevant and written in a conversational but not informal language.

I would just like to recommend this book for everyone who is interested in design, to any degree. Its engaging and sparks are now flying for my project after reading. I will have to renew my library loan and I will be asking for my own copy for Christmas.
